DOLE supports national survey for HR needs of the IT-BPM Sector

Labor Assistant Secretary and Concurrent BLE Director Dominique Rubia-Tutay served as one of the panel reactors during the Trade and Industry Development (TID) Talks for the IT-BPM Sector on 13 May 2022 at the Holiday Inn & Suites, Glorietta Mall, Palm Drive, Ayala Center, Makati. She was joined by key representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry, Philippine Trade Training Center, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, and the Department of Information and Communications Technology, along with relevant stakeholders such as the IT & Business Process Association of the Philippines.

ASec. Rubia-Tutay pointed out that the results of the National Skills Mapping Survey as presented by Ms. Ana Maria “Penny” S. Bongato (BOI Consultant) mirrors what has long been pointed out by industry partners – fresh graduates lack the technical and soft skills needed for the available jobs. She also mirrored this observation with the results of the DOLE’s Philippine Talent Mapping Initiative where it showed that included among the lower competencies of our workforce are: problem sensitivity, decision making, innovation, planning and organizing, and creative problem solving.

Moreover, she highlighted the role of the Department in addressing challenges towards the competitiveness of the workers in the IT-BPM sector, particularly on the role of the Bureau towards efficient employment programs and services and responsive labor market information.

In closing, she expressed the full support and commitment of the Department of Labor and Employment in succeeding activities planned after the presentation of the skills mapping study.

The TID Talks is DTI-BOI’s multi-sector communication platform which serves as a venue to inform, update, and exchange views with local industries on initiatives, programs, projects, issues and concerns affecting their competitiveness, and thus, ensures the agency remains responsive to the needs of the industries it serve.
