BLE celebrates 2022 ICT Month

29 June 2022 – The Bureau of Local Employment held its Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Month celebration via Zoom.

With the theme “Dagitab” (Filipino word for electricity or spark), the event featured webinars on data privacy and digital transformation. The theme aligns itself with the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s (DICT) theme of “Spark. Strengthen. Sustain: Advancing the PH Digital Agenda.”

In her opening message, Ms. Grace Baldoza, Chair of Data Privacy Committee and Co-Chair of Digital Transformation Team, highlighted the important roles of data privacy and digital transformation in ensuring the Bureau’s responsiveness to the changing needs of the world of work. The event which hopes to advance the digital maturity of the Bureau, she said, is also in preparation for the requirements of the new leadership of DOLE.

The first webinar revolved around the discussion on the concepts of data privacy and the Data Privacy Act. Focus has been given to the data subject rights which, when violated, may face penalties subject to the aforementioned law. The speakers, coming from the BLE Data Privacy Committee, reiterated the importance of data privacy in the presence of information and communication systems.

The second webinar focused on the BLE’s Digital Transformation Journey which was presented by the Bureau’s Digital Transformation Team. Braced with a Filipiniana metaphor of jeepney riding, the presentation recognized the uneven reception to the transformation given the varying degrees of technical literacy of the staff and data flowing across the organizational units. The digital transformation has been envisioned to improve employment facilitation inclusive to the Filipino workforce.

Concluding the celebration is the BLE’s 1st Digital Quiz Bee. Topics ranging from tech-themed to random trivia comprised the questions and played by the BLE staff.

Also present during the event were Assistant Secretary Dominique Rubia-Tutay, Ms. Rosalinda P. Pineda, and Ms. Ana Liza Ragos.

In 2019, the DICT published the National ICT Ecosystem Framework in which digital transformation initiatives and data privacy concern projects are encouraged.
