DOLE Conducts 1st Kapihan Session with Industry Partners

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) conducted its very first Kapihan Session with its industry partners last 30 April 2014 at Sulo Riviera Hotel, Quezon City. The theme of the Kapihan Session focused on the coming Labor Day celebration and industry trends and careers in hotel, restaurant, and tourism, and IT-BPM.

The 1st Kapihan Session is a convergent program of the Labor Communications Office (LCO) and the Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) which serves as a media news forum on specific industry trends and prospects.

Different industry groups and government agencies were represented in the Session to shed light the status of their specific industry group in the country. Together with DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz, BLE Director Dominique Tutay, and LCO Director Nicon Fameronag are Mr. Alfredo Hernandez of the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), Mr. Alfredo Lim of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of the Philippines (HRAP), and Mr. Ryan Sebastian from the Department of Tourism (DOT).

“This 1st Kapihan Session serves as an avenue to exchange views and solicit feedback on recent industry developments and issues. It is an integral step in disseminating up-to-date labor market information (LMI) and strengthening government and industry partnership”, Secretary Baldoz said.

The 1st Kapihan Session also drew participation from various media platforms in the country.

“This meeting promotes coordination and synergy between the government and industry sector... it is a key element in information exchange”, Director Tutay said. “Continued talks with our industry partners help us in validating our reports and studies”, she added.

Secretary Baldoz also drew the attention of the government’s industry partners and media representatives for the Mega Job Fair event in SMX Convention Centre on 1 May 2014 as part of the Labor Day celebration.

The media representatives asked the panel questions on issues such as contractualization especially in the IT-BPM sector, development of a tourism-hub in Metro Manila modelled in the likes of Macau, and wage increase among others.

More Kapihan Sessions on other industry groups are expected to be conducted for the course of 2014.
