Hundreds of jobseekers and graduating students participated in the sessions on career guidance and employment coaching, entrepreneurship, employee rights and benefits and career fair, jointly organized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The DOLE together with DTI spearheaded Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) Caravan, 3 and 4 March 2017 at the Riverbanks Activity Center, Marikina City. The caravan also introduced employment facilitation programs of the government and on how to avail them.

With the theme, “Kasipagan, Katapatan, Kagalingan, Karangalan (4Ks) Para sa mga Ganado Magtrabaho,” the caravan aims to provide more employment opportunities and promote entrepreneurship at the grassroots level. Government agencies, LGUs, employers from private sector and the academe gathered to identify strategies to raise the public awareness of the employment opportunities, increase employment in the country and address job-skill mismatch.

Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) Labor and Employment Officer III Miguel Luis Arias shared his expertise on career guidance and employment coaching to graduating college students of Marikina City. “Career guidance is an important tool to address job-skill mismatch and reduce youth unemployment. Career does not only pertain to the professional path you will take. It is a continuous process of learning and development,” he reminded the students as he went along with Career Trends and Matching.

The employment and livelihood summit highlighted the TNK Blueprint for Decent Employment and Entrepreneurship 2017-2022, which envisions 7.5 million jobs by 2020. The government’s blueprint prioritizes decent job creation, education and training, youth unemployment, entrepreneurship and creation and growth of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

According to the blueprint, key employment generators (KEGs) that will create more job opportunities include Manufacturing, Tourism, Construction, Transportation and Logistics, Wholesale and Retail Trade and Information Technology-Business Process Management (IT-BPM).
