The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), in collaboration with the Public Employment Service Office Managers Association of the Philippines (PESOMAP) Inc., held its 16th National PESO Congress on 13-15 October 2016 at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino, Cebu City.
With this year’s theme, “Pinagtibay na Bagong PESO: Tulay sa Pag-asenso sa Buhay ng Manggagawang Pilipino”, the Congress invariably serves as an avenue for the almost 2,000 PESOs throughout the country to learn, exchange/share ideas, and showcase good practices. Learning sessions on relevant topics and forthcoming issues on the DOLE Programs, and how the PESO will operate and strategize in implementing the DOLE programs are conducted as well.
In line with this annual event is the Search for Best PESO, which aims to commend and to give accolades to respective PESOs for their effective management and efficient implementation of employment facilitation programs.
For this year, the Iloilo Province (Region VI) bagged the National Best PESO Award under the 1st Class Provincial category, and Northern Samar (Region VIII) under the 2nd Class Provincial category. There were no winners for the 3rd to 5th Class Provincial category since no entries were submitted.
Meanwhile, Cebu City (Region VII) bested the other nominees under the Highly Urbanized City category; Panabo City, Davao (Region XI) under the Component City category; Masinloc, Zambales (Region III) under the 1st to 2nd Class Municipality category; Cordon Isabela (Region II) and Magsaysay, Davao del Sur (Region XI) under the 3rd to 4th Class Municipality category; and San Juan, Abra (CAR) under the 5th to 6th Class Municipality category.
