Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs) nationwide will be celebrating a milestone this year as 2020 marks the 20th Anniversary of Republic Act 8759 also known as the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Act of 1999 which was further amended by RA 10691, institutionalizing PESOs nationwide.  

In partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), PESOs have played a significant role in the implementation of employment services at the grassroots level for more than two decades, helping working Filipinos b giving three core services: Placement and Referral, Labor Market Information, and Career Coaching and Guidance.

The PESO Act was approved by Congress on 16 December 1999 and was enacted on 14 February 2000. The Act established in all capital towns of provinces, key cities, and other strategic areas a PESO that shall ensure prompt, timely and efficient delivery of employment service and information on DOLE programs.

To acknowledge PESOs unwavering public service, DOLE conducts an annual Search for Best PESO (SBP) Awards where PESOs which demonstrate outstanding performance and contribution in the areas of employment facilitation are recognized.

On the 20th year since the passing of the PESO Act, 57 PESOs around the country will be competing for the prestigious National Search for Best PESO Awards.

Each SBP winner per category will receive an award of P150,000.00, while Hall of Fame awardees, or PESOs that win the Best PESO Award in the same category for three (3) consecutive years, will be awarded with P200,000.00.

In addition to this, DOLE-Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) shall publish a coffee table book to highlight the journey of PESOs from its humble beginnings to what it is today. Anchored on the theme, “PESO 2020: Dalawang Dekada ng Paghahatid Serbisyo sa Manggagawang Pilipno.”

The Coffee Table Book is an overview of the milestone that have made the PESO a vital office in addressing unemployment, underemployment and job mismatch in the country. The book also showcases the accomplishments and programs offered by PESO, and the success stories of individuals who benefited from it.
