Not even the COVID-19 could stop the Department of Labor and Employment – Bureau of Local Employment (DOLE-BLE) from recognizing and acknowledging outstanding Public Employment Service Offices (PESO) who perform above and beyond the basic duties of their offices in the name of serving the Filipino people.
Despite restrictions, the Bureau pushed through with its annual National Search for Best PESO (SBP) by taking advantage of advances in digital technology. Instead of the traditional opening of SBP entries, BLE conducted an online live streaming for DOLE Regional Offices and PESOs nationwide to witness the screening of entries without the need to be physically present.
A total of 57 SBP entries passed the initial screening; 10 of which will be competing under the Provincial category, 17 PESOs under the City category, 25 PESOs under the Municipal category, and five (5) under the JPO/NGO/CBO category.
This year, each SBP winner per category will receive an award of P150,000.00, while Hall of Fame awardees, or PESOs that win the Best PESO Award in the same category for three (3) consecutive years, will be awarded with P200,000.00.
More than 100 PESOs have been awarded the SBP Awards while 23 have the distinction of being inducted into the Hall of Fame, as of today.
The Search for Best PESO Awards was first conducted by DOLE in 2007, to serve as a major mechanism in recognizing the outstanding performance and contribution of PESOs in the delivery of services, primarily in employment facilitation, which bring millions of jobs to the Filipinos.
PESOs serve as an effective scheme in the alleviation of unemployment, underemployment, and job mismatch in the country. It provides three core functions: Referral and Placement, Labor Market Information and Career Coaching and Guidance.
